December 2011 Pooch Palace Update

Bailey and Scooter face off

SPRING BREAK reservation notification by January 11, 2012

In our last newsletter we talked about the characteristics of our "holiday dogs." Dogs that are quiet (both inside the building and out), that eat well, and that play well with others (this means that they need to be spayed or neutered too!), are likely to be considered for holiday stays. And when we talk about the holidays, we mean Spring Break week (whatever dates the University of Iowa observes for its spring break), the Wednesday before Thanksgiving 'til the Sunday following Thanksgiving, and the 22nd of December 'til the 2nd of January.

Anyone can request that their dog or dogs be added to the list of "holiday dogs to be considered." But do keep in mind the criteria we are using as a way to select a group of dogs that will make for a pleasant holiday stay for all! We have been filling out Take-Home Reports that you receive when your dog checks out, in an effort to inform you as to what your dog is like away from home. Hopefully these will shed a little light on our "holiday dogs" decision. If your dog is not selected, he or she will remain on the waiting list and may be chosen in the event of a cancellation, however it's a good idea to have a Plan B lined up just in case!

For the upcoming Spring Break holiday, we will be contacting the people whose dogs have been selected by January 11th. If you have not heard from us on or before the 11th of January, then you will know that your dog is still on the waiting list.

If you have any questions regarding this process, please call or e-mail the Palace--we'd be happy to go through it with you in person!

If you have small dog sweaters or coats not in use or that you don't need any longer--these would make a little Palace pup very happy this winter!

JUST A REMINDER DURING THESE WINTER MONTHS:
Bring extra dog food and meds just in case you don't make it back on schedule from Hawaii or the Cayman Islands or Dubuque, or wherever you may be headed during the snowy-weather months!
